Thomas H. Painter is the founder and CEO of Airborne Snow Observatories. Prior to this, they were a principal scientist at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, an assistant professor at the University of Utah, and a research scientist at the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC). Their research interests include snow hydrology, imaging spectroscopy, and global snow mapping.

Thomas H. Painter obtained their Doctor of Philosophy in Physical Sciences from UC Santa Barbara and their Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Colorado State University.
