Operations Manager at Airborne Technology

Tjalling Stelma has a diverse work experience in various roles and industries. Tjalling began their career as a Frontdesk employee at Gemeente Enschede in September 2005 and worked there until August 2006. In September 2006, Tjalling joined I-The Software BV as a Software Developer, where they worked until December 2010.

In September 2010, Tjalling started an internship at Airborne Technology Centre, where they focused on researching heat transfer during automated thermoplastic tape placement processes for the TAPAS project. Tjalling'sinternship lasted until November 2010.

Following their internship, Tjalling joined Airborne in 2011 and held several roles within the company. From February 2012 to January 2016, they worked as a Research Engineer, specializing in thermal modeling of thermoset and thermoplastic composite processing and the design of machines for processing thermoplastic composite profiles. During this time, they also completed their Master Thesis, which focused on researching the interlaminar bonding process of carbon fiber tapes for automated tape placement.

Starting in January 2016, Tjalling transitioned to the role of Project Manager at Airborne. In this position, they managed the development and build of various systems, including an Automated Tape Placement system and a pick and sort system for plies produced by a cutting table. Tjalling also contributed to non-project management work, such as developing an algorithm to control the track axis of a robot used for automated tape placement.

In December 2017, Tjalling took on the role of Engineering Manager at Airborne, overseeing engineering operations within the company. Concurrently, they also served as a Member of the Works Council from October 2017 to September 2020.

Most recently, in January 2022, Tjalling became an Operations Manager at Airborne. The details of this role are ongoing and currently do not have an end date specified.

Tjalling Stelma completed their education in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Twente. Tjalling obtained a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Mechanical Engineering from 1998 to 2008. Later, they pursued further education and earned a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in Production Technology from 2008 to 2012, also from the University of Twente.
