Matthew J. Desch joined the AOPA Board of Trustees in 2011, having been an AOPA member since 1976 and a member of the AOPA Foundation Board of Visitors since 2008. He serves on the Executive Committee, the Nominating Committee, the Compensation, Organization as well as the HR Committee.
Matt earned his Private Pilot Certificate in 1976 and holds a Commercial certificate with Instrument, and Multi-Engine Land as well as Single-Engine Sea ratings. He has more than 2000 flight hours today and owns a TBM 910 based at Dulles International Airport (KIAD).
An early pioneer in the wireless industry, he is CEO of Iridium Communications Inc., a global provider of mobile satellite communications. Matt resides in McLean, VA.
