Christopher Manning is a prominent figure in the field of artificial intelligence and linguistics, serving as the Director of the Stanford Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (SAIL) and Associate Director of the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence. Manning holds the position of Professor of Computer Science and Linguistics at Stanford University, where a career has spanned from 1999 to the present, following earlier roles as Assistant Professor and Associate Professor in the same disciplines. Additional experience includes serving as an Investing Partner at AIX Ventures since September 2021 and as a Lecturer in Linguistics at the University of Sydney from 1996 to 1999, as well as an Assistant Professor of Computational Linguistics at Carnegie Mellon University from 1994 to 1996. Manning earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Linguistics from Stanford University, following a Bachelor of Arts with Honours that included studies in Linguistics, Computer Science, and Mathematics from The Australian National University.
