Anna Schmits

Anna Schmits is an experienced legal professional specializing in data protection, privacy, and cybersecurity. Currently serving as Lead Counsel and Director of Data Protection at Akamai Technologies since November 2009, Anna leads the global data protection and privacy program, with particular expertise in EU E-Privacy laws, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), and the Australian Federal Privacy Act. Previous roles at Akamai include EMEA Data Protection Officer and Senior Legal Counsel positions focused on data protection and corporate matters across multiple regions. Prior to Akamai, Anna held legal roles at Qimonda AG, the Permanent Mission of the Federal Republic of Germany to the UN, and DeOrchis & Partners, LLP. Anna completed legal education with a Second State Exam from OLG Hamburg and a First State Exam from the University of Hamburg, supplemented by studies in International Law at Aix-Marseille University.
