Tim Karpishin, Ph.D., has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of chemistry and bioinorganic/biomaterials research. Tim is currently serving as the Director of Chemistry at Akoya Biosciences, Inc. where they lead the development of the Spatial Biology platform for imaging multiple biomarkers on whole slides. Prior to this, from 2003 to 2021, they held the same position at Vector Laboratories, Inc., overseeing various aspects including manufacturing, research, QC, document control, and chemical safety. Before their tenure at Vector Laboratories, Dr. Karpishin worked as the Director of Chemistry at Covalent Industrial Technologies, a biomaterials start-up company. In this role, they directed synthetic chemistry operations. Tim has also contributed significantly to academia, serving as a Professor of Chemistry at the University of California, San Diego from 1994 to 2000. During their time there, they established a research group in bioinorganic and biomaterials chemistry, published multiple papers, obtained a U.S. patent, and taught chemistry classes at the undergraduate and graduate level.
Tim Karpishin, Ph.D., completed their education in Chemistry with a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Honors from The University of British Columbia in 1987. Tim then pursued a Ph.D. in Chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley from 1987 to 1992. Following this, they became an NIH Postdoctoral Fellow at Caltech from 1992 to 1994, specializing in Chemistry and Biochemistry.
