Raquel Carvalho

Raquel Carvalho is an experienced journalist currently serving as a contributor at South China Morning Post (SCMP) since June 2014, focusing on issues related to migrant domestic workers, human rights, and social justice across Asia. Previously, Carvalho held positions as Asia Correspondent and reporter at SCMP, covering a wide array of topics including human trafficking and security. Prior experience includes working as Chief Reporter for Jornal Tribuna de Macau, investigating public concessions and social issues related to drug trafficking and gambling. Carvalho has also reported on significant events such as the US presidential election and the 2008 Sichuan earthquake. Academic credentials include a Master’s degree in Journalism from The University of Hong Kong and ongoing studies at Columbia University in investigative journalism.
