Vice Chair at Alabam Goodwill

Marshall Rathmell is currently the Vice Chair at Alabam Goodwill. Prior to this, they worked as the Accounting Policy Manager at BBVA Compass from July 2007 to February 2009. In this role, they were responsible for researching and maintaining an active knowledge of US Accounting Governing Bodies’ (such as FASB) upcoming and recently established pronouncements, as well creating, implementing, and maintaining accounting policies for Compass Bank, a $60 billion bank holding company, and its subsidiaries. This also included creating a monthly accounting update memo to inform the accounting group and executive leadership of upcoming changes that effect Compass, as well as attending and presenting bi-annually at the Financial Accounting and Reporting Association’s (FARA) meetings on behalf of Compass. Additionally, they were also responsible for maintaining an Equity Method Investment in a Limited Partnership to determine if adjustments to Compass’ GL should be made based on recent capital calls and fair market value, communicating as a liaison with Compass’ external auditors and Compass employees to facilitate completing review of open items, reconciling audit committee approved vs. external auditor invoices to prove applicability of expenses, researching and documenting accounting for complex transactions such as impairment of core deposit intangibles, and creating financial statement notes that combine the separately audited financial statements of Compass and other subsidiaries of it’s parent company.

Marshall Rathmell attended Leadership Birmingham, the University of Alabama for their Master of Accounting and Bachelor of Science in Commerce and Business Administration, and the Professional Partners in Philanthropy Leadership Forum. Marshall also attended Mountain Brook High School, Mountain Brook Junior High, Gresham, and Grantswood Elementary. Marshall is certified from the CFP Board as a Certified Financial Planner, the Alabama State Board of Public Accountants as a Certified Public Accountant, and the AICPA as a Personal Financial Specialist.
