Dr. Adelina S. Silva is the Vice Chancellor for Student Success for the Alamo Community College District (ACCD). She has held several positions in her 40+ year career with the Alamo Colleges District as counselor, founder and director of the San Antonio College Women’s Center, project director for federal programs in student services, Vice President of Student Services at Palo Alto College, District Director of Student and Community Program Development and District Vice President of Student Program Development.
Classroom experience includes teaching at McCollum High School in the Harlandale ISD, Palo Alto College (PAC), San Antonio College (SAC) and Texas A&M University, and as an Adjunct Graduate Professor of business, management, and human resource development for Webster University, where she was the recipient of the 2003 Excellence in Teaching Award for adjunct faculty worldwide.
Dr. Silva is the first Hispanic female Vice Chancellor in the Alamo Community College District, home of SAC, where she earned an Associate of Arts Degree. She is a Summa Cum Laude Bachelor’s degree graduate of Texas A & I University at Corpus Christi and holds a Doctoral degree in Educational Administration in Community College Leadership from the University of Texas at Austin, where she was a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. She is a Fellow of the National Community College Hispanic Council and the Institute of Educational Leadership and completed the Institute on Educational Management at Harvard University.
Dr. Silva has presented extensively on leadership, student development, advising, and equity. Her research and publications include career choices of returning women in community colleges. Dr. Silva was a member of the City of San Antonio’s first women’s delegation to Japan and presented internationally on non-traditional students, student and leadership development, and student equity in Mexico, Dominican Republic, United Arab Emirates, Brazil, Panama, Nicaragua. As a Fulbright Scholar, she participated in the Community College Administrator Seminar in Russia and is now serving as a Fulbright Ambassador.
A fourth generation Texan and Distinguished Graduate from McCollum High School, Dr. Silva has been recognized for her leadership and contributions to the State and South Texas community. She served eight years on the Junior/Community College Student Personnel Association of Texas (J/CCSPAT) Board of Directors; two years as the Chair. She was inducted into the Harlandale ISD Hall of Fame and received recognition as La Prensa’s San Antonio Latina Women in Action and as an Outstanding Young Women in America.
