Sr. Network Operations Specialist/submarine Cable Operations at Alaska Communications

Jim W. has a diverse work experience in the telecommunications industry. Jim began their career at AT&T in 1992 as a Communications Equipment Installer and worked there until 1995. Jim then joined MCI/World as a Network Technician from 1996 to 1999, where they were responsible for installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of network equipment and circuits. Jim then worked at Level 3 Communications from 1999 to 2015, initially as a Network Technician and later as a Field Engineer. In these roles, they managed network build installs, provided engineering details, and oversaw the progress of tasks. Since 2016, Jim has been working at NECA/IBEW Local 48 as a Technician. Most recently, they joined Alaska Communications in 2019 as a Sr. Network Operations Specialist/Submarine Cable Operations.

Jim W. attended Clark College from 2006 to 2008, where they studied Cisco CCNA. Prior to that, from 1988 to 1990, they attended Oregon Polytechnic Institute, earning an AAS degree in Electronics/Computer Technology. Earlier in their education, from 1982 to 1986, they attended North Valley High School, but did not obtain a degree or pursue a specific field of study.
