Tom Simes

Sr. Manager, Network & Systems Engineering at Alaska Communications

Tom Simes has a diverse work experience in the field of network and systems engineering. Tom started their career in 1988 as a System Administrator and Meteorology lab instructor at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. During their time there, they installed and maintained the first LAN on campus and developed a system for remote access to weather data.

In 1993, Tom joined BSL Computers in Prescott, AZ as a Sr. Network and System Administrator. Tom was responsible for designing and administering Northern Arizona's first commercial Internet node, as well as all aspects of day-to-day operations.

In 1995, Tom joined Internet Alaska as a Sr. Network and System Administrator. Tom played a key role in the growth of the company until it was acquired by Alaska Communications in 2000.

At Alaska Communications, Tom held several roles including Sr. IP Network Engineer, UNIX Systems Administrator, and IP Engineering Foreman. Tom was involved in designing and deploying a carrier VPLS platform, and served on the VPLS design and deployment team.

Overall, Tom Simes has a proven track record in network and systems engineering, with experience in both small and large organizations.

Tom Simes attended Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University from 1985 to 1991, where they earned a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Aeronautical Science.
