The mission of the Division of Alaska State Troopers is to preserve the peace, enforce the law, prevent and detect crime, and protect life and property.

The Division is comprised of posts assigned to five geographic detachments that provide patrol, enforcement, and search and rescue to all areas of the state and a central headquarters. 

The Alaska State Troopers'​ eight core missions in meeting these responsibilities are:
1. Maintain public peace and order.
2. Enforce criminal laws and investigate violations of those laws.
3. Enforce traffic laws and regulations and investigate violations of those laws and regulations.
4. Conduct and manage search and rescue operations.
5. Support and assist other law enforcement and governmental agencies.
6. Investigate allegations of human abuse or neglect.
7. Respond to the concerns and inquiries of citizens.
8. Provide current and relevant training to law enforcement and criminal justice agencies.

The Law Enforcement Team at the Alaska State Troopers is responsible for maintaining public peace and order, enforcing criminal and traffic laws, and investigating violations of those laws. The team conducts search and rescue operations, supports other law enforcement and governmental agencies, investigates human abuse or neglect allegations, addresses citizen concerns, and ensures the provision of current and relevant training to law enforcement and criminal justice agencies. Team members include Criminal Justice Technicians, Sergeants, Lieutenants, Investigators, and State Troopers, all working collaboratively to uphold the mission of the Division.

The Administrative Operations team at the Alaska State Troopers supports the division by managing logistical tasks such as vehicle coordination, procurement, and office administration. This team ensures the smooth functioning of day-to-day operations, facilitates communication, and provides essential support to all Trooper activities, enabling them to focus on their core missions of law enforcement, public safety, and community service.
