Brian E. Jackson

Senior Optimization Engineer, Motion and Autonomy at Albedo

Brian E. Jackson has worked in a variety of roles since 2011. Brian E. began their career as a Volunteer Representative for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Puebla, Mexico, where they taught individuals and families the importance of spirituality, family, self-sufficiency, and goal-settings. Brian E. then worked as a Mechanical Engineering Intern at Fallbrook Technologies in 2011 and 2013, where they created software tools in Excel to reduce metrology reporting time by 50% and increased report accuracy and consistency, as well as developed a project forecasting / management tool in Excel. In 2015, they worked as an Engineering Co-op at Dana Incorporated, where they implemented a workflow management system to improve interdepartmental communication and data sharing, and developed analysis routines for durability testing of a continuously variable planetary transmission. Brian E. then worked as a Teaching Assistant and Paid Research Assistant at Brigham Young University from 2014 to 2017, where they coached students from all majors and disciplines in writing 15-25 page multidisciplinary essays on "Great Questions" and developed an open-source analysis package for performing research in electron-backscatter diffraction. In 2017, they worked as a Post-Graduate Intern at Raytheon and as a PhD Candidate at Stanford University, where they researched novel algorithms for robotic motion planning. In 2021, they worked as an Engineering Intern at Optimus Ride, where they developed a state-of-the-art nonlinear trajectory optimization solver in C++ from scratch and validated results with on-vehicle testing. Finally, in 2020 they began working as a PhD Candidate at Carnegie Mellon University, where they are researching state-of-the-art computational techniques for solving nonlinear optimization problems focused on trajectory optimization for underactuated robotic systems. Brian E. is currently working as a Senior Optimization Engineer, Motion and Autonomy at Albedo.

Brian E. Jackson obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering from Brigham Young University between 2010 and 2017. Brian E. then went on to pursue a Master of Science (M.S.) in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University between 2017 and 2020. Most recently, they have been pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Robotics from Carnegie Mellon University since 2020.
