Matthew Niemerg, Ph.D. has a diverse work experience in the fields of distributed ledger technology, cryptography, and high-performance computing. Matthew is the Co-Founder and President of Aleph Zero, a Swiss non-profit focused on developing a decentralized DAG-based platform with a privacy-enhancing smart contract infrastructure. Matthew is also the CEO of Cardinal Cryptography, a team that specializes in mathematics, cryptography, and software development for the DLT space. In addition, they have served as a Scientific Advisory Board Member at Helix Cognitive Computing GmbH and as the Technology Lead at HardFork Entertainment, Inc. Matthew has also worked as a Distributed Ledger Technology and Security Advisor at OneLedger Technology Inc. Furthermore, they have been a Strategic Advisor - Technology at Minterest, a cross-chain decentralized money market lending protocol. Before these roles, they worked as a Distributed Ledger Technology Consultant for various clients and as a Center of Excellence Postdoc at IBM in High-Performance Computing. Matthew also held research positions as a Postdoctoral Visiting Fellow at The Fields Institute For Research In Mathematical Sciences and as a Simons-Berkeley Fellow at The Institute for Interdisciplinary Information Sciences.

Matthew Niemerg, Ph.D. completed their Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Mathematics and Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Computer Science at Eastern Illinois University from 2004 to 2008. Matthew then went on to pursue their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Mathematics at Colorado State University, completing it from 2008 to 2014.
