Tony Palmer has a diverse work experience background. Tony started their career as a Year in Industry Student at Syngenta in 2007, where they developed a protocol to test seed coating formulas. Tony then worked as a General Assistant at Sainsbury's from 2004 to 2011. Following this, they took on the role of a BBSRC PIPS Intern at Yorkshire Cancer Research in 2014, managing research funding and accounts. Tony went on to pursue a PhD at the University of Leeds from 2012 to 2016, focusing on structural and functional studies on a membrane channel protein. Since 2016, they have been working at Alfa Financial Software in various software engineering roles, such as Junior Consultant, Software Engineer, and currently as a Senior Software Engineer and Principal Software Engineer. Tony's software engineering responsibilities at Alfa Financial Software include full stack development, designing, coding, testing software in Java, and working with databases and web services.

Tony Palmer attended Ripon Grammar School from 2000 to 2007. Tony then pursued a Level 3 Certificate in Management at Park Lane College Leeds in 2007-2008. Following this, they completed an MSci in Biology and Chemistry at Durham University from 2008 to 2012. Finally, Tony obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Structural Biology from the University of Leeds between 2012 and 2016. In 2015, they also studied "Innovation: the Key to Business Success" at FutureLearn.
