Mattheus F. A. Goosen

AVP, Research & Graduate Studies at Alfaisal University

Professor Mattheus (Theo) Goosen is the acting Dean of College of Science and General Studies since 2017 at Alfaisal University, a fully accredited NCAAA Institute of higher education in Riyadh, KSA. For the past 12 years he has held the position of Associate VP for Research & Graduate Studies at the University. He feels extremely proud to be part of this competent, diverse and internationally renowned Institute. He was delighted to report in the 2018 Times Higher Education World University Subject Rankings, that Alfaisal University ranked 251 out of 300 in the world for the Life Sciences subject ranking.

Prior to joining Alfaisal University, Dr Matthues acquired a vast academic experience working for several prestigious Institutions over a span of more than 17 years. He was the campus Dean of the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) in Amman, Jordan (2006 – 2008). Before this job role he worked in Puerto Rico, USA as the Dean of the School of Science and Technology at the Universidad del Turabo (2004 – 2006). Other Institutes where he has held academic positions are Sultan Qaboos University, Muscat (2003 - -04), Oxford University, UK (1990- 91), Queen’s University, Kingston, Canada (1984 – 96).

Apart from pedagogical job roles, Dr Matthues has also held various technical positions in prestigious companies such as Areej Vegetable Oils & Derivatives (Oman), Oman Agricultural Development Company (Oman) & Connaught Laboratories Limited (Canada ON).

Dr. Matthues has been awarded with several accolades and scholarships for his numerous achievements. He has more than 200 publications to his credit including over 150 referred journal papers, 45 conference papers, 12 edited books and 10 patents.

He has been involved in massive research projects and has helped raise $23 million USD (2014 - 2018) for research work at Alfaisal University. His areas of research interests include renewable energy, desalination, sustainable development, membrane separations, spray coating technology and biomaterials.
