ALMA Observatory
Tzu-Chiang Shen serves as the Software Group Manager in the Department of Computing at ALMA since May 2007, where responsibilities include overseeing a team of 14 engineers to develop, test, and deploy software for the ALMA Observatory across various fields. Prior to this role, Tzu-Chiang was an Instrumentation Software Engineer at the European Southern Observatory from September 2003 to April 2007, managing software for astronomical instruments and telescope control systems. Tzu-Chiang's career began at ATI Chile as a Software Engineer involved in an SMS platform project for BellSouth. Academic qualifications include a Systems Engineering degree from MIT xPRO, a Stanford Ignite program in Innovation and Entrepreneurship from Stanford University, a Master of Science in Automatic Control, and an Electrical Engineering degree in Automatic Control from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.

The Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) is an international partnership of the European Southern Observatory (ESO), the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) and the National Institutes of Natural Sciences (NINS) of Japan, together with NRC (Canada), NSC and ASIAA (Taiwan), and KASI (Republic of Korea), in cooperation with the Republic of Chile. ALMA -the largest astronomical project in existence- is a single telescope of revolutionary design, composed of 66 high precision antennas located on the Chajnantor plateau, 5000 meters altitude in northern Chile.
