Abul Kalam Azad has had extensive work experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Abul Kalam started their career at Opsonin Group in 1983, where they worked as a Deputy Manager in Quality Control until 1990. After that, they joined the Directorate General of Drugs in Bangladesh as a Superintendent of Drugs, holding the position from 1990 to 2002. Following this, they worked at Gulf Pharmaceutical Industry (JULPHAR) from 2002 to 2006 as an Assistant Manager in PDL. Since 2006, they have been serving as a Principal Analyst at Almac Sciences.

Abul Kalam Azad completed their education with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Pharmaceutical Analysis from the University of Bradford from 1997 to 2000. Prior to that, they obtained a Master of Pharmacy degree in Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, and Pharmaceutics from the University of Dhaka between 1978 and 1982.
