Yunus Sevimli

Cofounder and CTO at Almond FinTech

Yunus Sevimli is a Cofounder and CTO at Almond FinTech since 2020. In the same year, they became a MIT Sandbox Innovation Fund Mentor and Graduate Teaching Assistant at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Yunus is also a Fellow at the Global CoCreation Lab since 2020. From 2017 to 2020, they were a Lead Hardware Engineer at Galen Robotics, where they managed a team of 7 engineers and published several peer-reviewed papers and obtained two patents. From 2014 to 2017, they were a Director of Research and Development and Director of Mechanical Engineering at FactoryFour. During this time, they developed a system for making custom orthotics and prosthetics based on 3D scanning/printing and initiated strategic partnerships with medical clinics and oversaw volunteer patient studies. From 2011 to 2014, they were a Research Faculty at Laboratory for Computational Sensing and Robotics at Johns Hopkins University. During this time, they oversaw the development of a microsurgery robot and the led verification & validation studies, published several peer-reviewed papers in international journals and conferences as well as a masters thesis, and won best paper award at the International Conference on Reconfigurable Mechanisms and Robots (ReMAR 2015). From 2013 to 2014, they were a Global Engineering Innovation Technical Leader at Kopernik, where they oversaw the design and prototyping of agricultural solutions, with an emphasis on social understanding and sustainability. Yunus was invited to present the results at "Poverty Alleviation: A Role for Technology and Infrastructure" Conference held in Rome, Italy in 2015 and gave several guest lectures on the role of social understanding in poverty alleviation and prototyping with natural materials.

Yunus Sevimli holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the MIT Sloan School of Management, a Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from The Johns Hopkins University, a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from The Johns Hopkins University, and a Da Vinci Engineering Enrichment Program from the University of Toronto. Yunus also has several certifications, including Open Water Diver from SSI Scuba Schools International (November 2020), Basic Keelboat Instructor from US Sailing (June 2016), Bareboat Cruising Certification and Basic Cruising Certification from US Sailing (October 2014), Basic Keelboat Certification from US Sailing (July 2014), Wilderness First Responder from the National Outdoor Leadership School (January 2012), and a Private Pilot License (in progress) from the Federal Aviation Administration.
