Toby Houchens

After graduating from the University of California, San Diego with a bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience and a master’s in Biology, Toby went on to join the U.S. Army where he became a medic and eventually a member of the Army’s Special Forces Group, more commonly known as the Green Berets. After leaving the military with over 10 years of experience, Toby founded Alpha Recon in 2013 as a travel risk management company providing destination intelligence for individuals traveling abroad and businesses and organizations conducting business overseas.

Toby served around the world in high threat areas advising senior military and U.S. government officials and dignitaries. Engaging with the locals he gained first-hand security experience in complex environments, strategy, and unconventional warfare. During this time, Toby became an expert in risk management and mitigation in various threat environments.

Toby is currently on the technical committee and working group for ESRM on behalf of ASIS, developing the Enterprise Security Risk Management guideline.
