H. Gray Karpel has had a diverse range of work experiences. They started their career in 2008 as a Periodicals/AV Clerk at Elmhurst Public Library. They also volunteered as a mentor at Open Books, assisting an inner-city student with editing cover letters, resumes, and college applications. In addition, they ran a monthly storytime at the Open Books bookstore for children. From 2008 to 2010, they volunteered at Reed College as a member of the Alumni Association.
In 2008, Karpel also worked as a Legal Secretary/Law Librarian at Bates Carey Nicolaides LLP. They provided administrative support to a team of attorneys, which included organizing meetings, maintaining files, editing legal briefs, and conducting legal research. From 2017 to 2020, Karpel served as the Executive Director of the Boston Choral Ensemble.
Finally, since March 2014, Karpel has been working at AlphaSimplex Group. They started as a Marketing Associate before being promoted to Senior Marketing Associate. Currently, they hold the position of Director of Project Management and Marketing Communications.
H. Gray Karpel has a diverse education history. From 2004 to 2008, Karpel attended Reed College, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Classics. Following this, Karpel pursued further education at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign from 2009 to 2011, earning a Master of Library and Information Science degree with a focus on Library and Information Science. Most recently, starting in 2022 and expected to conclude in 2025, Karpel is enrolled as an MBA candidate at the Questrom School of Business, Boston University, but the specific field of study for this degree is unspecified.
