Altadena Girls
In the wake of the devastating Eaton Canyon Fire, Avery Colvert, an eighth-grader at Eliot Arts Magnet in Altadena, CA, saw the girls in her community struggling—not just with what they’d lost, but with the invisible weight of uncertainty, isolation, and shame. She knew they needed more than a temporary landing spot at the shelter—they needed hope, self-confidence, dignity, and a path to feeling whole again. What began as a simple act of kindness has grown into a national movement of hope with incredible momentum and support! Within a week of launching, Altadena Girls was featured in Time Magazine, The Guardian, The Los Angeles Times, The NY Times, on CBS, NBC, NPR, and ABC, and has reached more than 38 million people on social media.
