Edwin Lai, Ph.D., is a Scientist II at AltPep, specializing in R&D Translational Chemistry. Previous experience includes serving as a Graduate Research Assistant in Professor Jeffrey D. Hartgerink's Supramolecular Chemistry and Biomaterials Laboratory, as well as an ENRICH Fellow at Enventure. Edwin Lai also contributed to academic roles at Rice University as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for BIOE 322: Fundamentals of Systems Physiology, co-instructor for BIOE 420: Transport Phenomena in Bioengineering, and Graduate Student Mentor for the NSF Research Experience for Teachers Program. Additionally, Edwin Lai was an Undergraduate Research Assistant in Professor Shaochen Chen's Bioprinting and Tissue Engineering Laboratory. Edwin Lai earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Bioengineering and Biomedical Engineering from Rice University from 2017 to 2022 and a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from UC San Diego from 2013 to 2017.

AltPep Corporation is a biomedical startup with a breakthrough approach for diagnosing and treating some of the world’s most intractable diseases: amyloid diseases. They are currently focusing on CNS disorders, in particular Alzheimer’s Disease (AD). They target and seek to neutralize the early toxic oligomers behind these amyloid diseases, which in the case of AD are due to aggregation of the Amyloid-beta peptide (Abeta).
