James Hickey

James Hickey has a diverse and extensive work experience spanning several companies and industries. James has held various leadership positions throughout their career.

Starting in 1982, James served in the US Army as a Lieutenant Colonel until their retirement in 2008.

In 1997, they joined Humana as the Director of Contracting, where they were responsible for negotiating contracts with hospitals and physician groups. James led a team of contract negotiators and financial analysts.

From 2003 to 2005, James worked at Great-West Healthcare as the Regional Vice President of Network Development. James oversaw network management, administration, and growth for two states and managed complex hospital and physician group contracts.

James then joined UniCare Life and Health in 2005 as the Regional Vice President of Health Care Management. James was in charge of network management, administration, and membership growth for the region, with a focus on Texas HMO operations.

In 2005, they transitioned to WellPoint/UniCare as the Regional Vice President of Health Care Management and Chief Operating Officer for UniCare Health Plans of Texas. James had responsibilities in network management, quality, P&L, administration, and membership growth.

From 2009 to 2012, James led the UniCare Dissolution Team as the Regional Vice President. James managed the dissolution of UniCare Health Plans and the transition of its operations and P&L to WellPoint.

In 2012, they joined WellPoint as the Regional Vice President of the UniCare Dissolution Team for one year, overseeing the management of the plan's dissolution.

James then moved to Aetna in 2013, where they filled several roles. As the Vice President and General Manager of TX/NM Medicare and GM Coach for the South Central Territory, they were responsible for the financial and operational performance of Medicare plans in the territory. James also provided leadership and guidance to local market general managers and collaborated on national product strategy. Additionally, they served as the Vice President and General Manager of Medicare (Texas), handling the profitable growth, compliance, and administration of Aetna & Coventry Health Medicare Advantage Plans in Texas. James coordinated efforts across various departments.

Starting in 2018, James became the President & General Manager - South Texas & Louisiana (Market Leader) at Cigna. In this role, they developed and executed a local market strategy aligned with Cigna's overall value proposition. James led a team in delivering consultative solutions addressing customer, client, and healthcare professional needs.

Most recently, in 2022, James joined Altus ACE, LLC as the Senior Vice President - Strategy and Revenue. James created a strategy for equitable revenue models and collaborated with business and professional partners to ensure the organization's success. James also executed large projects and initiatives on behalf of the CEO and the organization's board.

James Hickey completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Health Care Administration from Providence College, where they studied from 1982 to 1986. Following this, they pursued a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree with a concentration in Health Care Administration from Central Michigan University, which they successfully achieved between 1991 and 1993.
