James Cannon

James (“Jim”) Cannon serves as AM General’s President and Chief Executive Officer. Cannon has over 25 years of experience in leading global companies and creating transformational growth across the defense, security and industrial marketplace.

Prior to joining AM General, Cannon served as Chief Executive Officer of FLIR Systems, Inc. where he led this manufacturer of sensors and unmanned systems for military and industrial customers through a strategic transformation and ultimate sale to Teledyne Technologies, Inc. Prior to FLIR Systems, Cannon spent over 16 years at Stanley Black & Decker, Inc. where he held various key leadership roles culminating in serving as President, Stanley Security for North America and Emerging Markets. Before joining Stanley, Cannon worked at Eaton Corporation where he led continuous improvement efforts for their truck transmission manufacturing facility. Cannon has served on various Boards of Directors including Lydall, Inc. where he served as Chairman of the Governance committee for over 4 years and currently sits on the Ouster, Inc. Advisory Board.

Cannon is a distinguished veteran having served in the U.S. Army for ten years as an Infantryman and Armor Officer and was deployed during Operation Desert Shield, Operation Desert Storm, and peace enforcement operations in Bosnia.

Cannon holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Marketing from University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
