Ilan Samish has had a long and varied career in the field of protein research. ilan began their career in 1995 as a research assistant in the labs of Prof. E. Rosenberg and Prof. D. Mirelman at Tel Aviv University. In 1999, they began working at the Weizmann Institute of Science as a protein researcher in the lab of Prof. Avigdor Scherz. ilan also took on roles as a popular science lecturer and journalist, a lecturer for the Davidson Institute for Science Education, and a graduate student, obtaining their M.Sc. and Ph.D. In 2004, they founded 3Dsig Structural Bioinformatics & Computational Biophysics and co-chaired the organization. ilan then worked as a lecturer at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Robert H. Smith Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Environment, Ort Braude College of Engineering, and The Academic College of Tel Aviv Yaffo. In 2006, they became an HFSP & EMBO Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania. From 2009 to 2011, they were a visiting researcher at the Brookhaven National Laboratory. Finally, in 2016, they founded Amai Proteins and became its CEO.
Ilan Samish began their educational journey in 1994 when they were accepted into the Adi Lautman Program for Outstanding Students at Tel Aviv University. During their time there, they studied a variety of subjects, including Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science, and MBA. ilan then moved on to the Weizmann Institute of Science, where they earned their M.Sc. in Biochemistry in 2000. Finally, they returned to the Weizmann Institute of Science to complete their PhD in Biochemistry in 2006.
