Selcuk Kopru

Selcuk Kopru is a distinguished professional in the fields of applied research, machine learning, and natural language processing, currently serving as a Principal Applied Scientist at Amazon since November 2024. With extensive experience at eBay since 2014, Selcuk has progressed through various leadership roles, including Senior Director of Applied Research for Search, where oversight of the Query and Content Understanding Organization has been a key focus. Selcuk has spearheaded projects to enhance eBay’s search engine, Cassini, and has led teams in developing advanced machine learning and NLP systems. As the CEO and Founder of Teknoloji Yazilimevi, Selcuk secured substantial research funding to innovate in NLP technologies for Turkish. Previous roles include Principal Speech & Language Engineer at AppTek and teaching positions at prominent universities. Selcuk holds a PhD, MSc, and BSc in Computer Engineering from Middle East Technical University.
