S.j. Matt Malone

President & Editor In Chief at America Media

Matt Malone, S.J. has worked in various roles throughout their career. Matt began their career as a Field Agent for the Massachusetts Democratic Party in 1994. Matt then served as a Special Assistant in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1995 to 1997. Following this, they worked as the Deputy Director and Co-Publisher of CommonWealth at MassINC, a nonpartisan think tank, from 1997 to 2002. In 2002, they became a Member of The Society of Jesus (Jesuits). In 2007, they joined America Magazine as an Associate Editor, covering foreign affairs and U.S. politics until 2009. Since 2012, they have held the role of President & Editor in Chief at America Media, overseeing its transformation from a small weekly print magazine to a larger organization with a staff of 43 and an annual operating budget of $8 million.

Matt Malone, S.J. began their education at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in History from 1990 to 1994. Matt then went on to Fordham University, where they obtained a Master of Arts (MA) in Philosophy from 2004 to 2007. In 2009, they pursued Theology/Theological Studies at both Heythrop College, U. of London and Université catholique de Louvain, earning a B.D. degree and a S.T.B. degree respectively until 2012. Additionally, in 2011, they attended Yale University's School of Management for a Magazine Media Publishing Course.
