Ramona Perez

Ramona Perez has a diverse work experience spanning different roles and organizations. Ramona began their career as an Assistant Professor at San Diego State University in 2001 and later progressed to the roles of Associate Professor and Director of the International Business Program. In 2009, they became the Director of the Center for Latin American Studies and also served as the Chair of the Institutional Review Board. Ramona Perez's expertise lies in political anthropology and critical medical anthropology, with a focus on regions such as the US/Mexico border, Oaxaca, Mexico, Baja California, and Nicaragua.

In addition to their work at San Diego State University, Ramona Perez has also been involved in various leadership positions within the American Anthropological Association. Ramona served as the President of SLACA (Society for Latin American and Caribbean Anthropology) from 2008 to 2011 and as an Executive Board Member representing Seat 1 of the Section Assembly from 2013 to 2016. Within the association, they chaired the Task Force on Israel Palestine.

Recently, Ramona Perez became the President of the American Anthropo, starting in November 2021. Prior to their academic career, they worked as a Senior Vice President at Shearson Lehman Mortgage Inc from 1980 to 1989.

Ramona Perez has a Bachelor's degree in Anthropology from San Diego State University. Ramona attended this university from 1991 to 1993. Following their undergraduate studies, they pursued a Ph.D. in Anthropology at the University of California, Riverside from 1993 to 1997.
