Joanne Padrón Carney

Joanne Padrón Carney is Chief Government Relations Officer for the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) with oversight of AAAS Federal Relations, Local Science and Engagement Network, and the R&D Budget and Policy Program. Since 1997, she has managed all activities of the program, including production of the weekly AAAS Policy Alert; tracking legislation related to a wide range of policy issues that impact the research community; organizing an annual S&T policy workshop for graduate students; briefings for congressional leaders and their staff; coordinating with affiliated science and engineering societies on advocacy efforts; and formulating AAAS policy strategies, statements, and testimony. She also serves on the AAAS Fellowship Advisory Committee, the Golden Goose Award Steering Committee, and the AIP Public Policy Committee.

Ms. Carney holds a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Language and Literature from the University of Maryland at College Park and a Master of Arts in Science, Technology, and Public Policy from the Elliott School of International Affairs at George Washington University.
