Ian Lau serves as the President of the American Cancer Society Brown Chapter, overseeing campus and local fundraising events while also leading a volunteer program supporting cancer patients. Currently a Research Assistant in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Brown University, Ian is involved in research on pH regulating hydrogels in cancer environments under the guidance of Dr. Vikas Srivastava. Additional roles include Legislative Ambassador for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, Connect for Health Advocate with Lifespan, and Co-Investigator on a study of social support among chemotherapy patients. Ian founded Blissful Boomers, a nonprofit focused on enhancing intergenerational relationships within the senior community, and has volunteered extensively with organizations such as Carefree Clinic/Clinica Esperanza and HopeHealth. Ian's research background includes a summer stint at the City of Hope, where analytical work on cancer cell biology took place. Ian is pursuing a ScB in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Brown University, expected to graduate in 2026.
