Currently serving as a web developer for the American College of Nurse-Midwives - Oregon Affiliate since March 2013, Piers has also held web development roles at Powell's Books and News-Register, contributing to projects from May 2015 to October 2015 and August 2013 to March 2015, respectively. Prior experience includes designing eBooks and managing data entry at Bookbyte, as well as serving as design editor for Chrysalis Literary & Arts Magazine. Piers began a career in digital media with a campaign internship at Obama for America in 2008. The American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM) is the professional association that represents certified nurse-midwives (CNMs) and certified midwives (CMs) in the United States. With roots dating to 1929, ACNM is the oldest women's health care organization in the United States. It provides research, administers and promotes continuing education programs, establishes clinical practice standards, and creates liaisons with state and federal agencies and members of Congress. The mission of ACNM is to promote the health and well-being of women and infants within their families and communities through the development and support of the profession of midwifery as practiced by CNMs and CMs. The philosophy inherent in the profession states that midwives believe every individual has the right to safe, satisfying health care with respect for human dignity and cultural variations.
