Ned Hanlon

Ned Hanlon has a diverse work experience that spans various roles and industries. Ned started their career as a Pool Lifeguard for the Town of North Hempstead from 1999 to 2001, and then became a Beach Lifeguard for the Town of Hempstead Government from 2003 to 2005. In 2006, they worked as a Scenic Carpenter at the University of Michigan until 2010.

In 2012, Ned Hanlon ventured into the entertainment field and became a Singer/Actor/Entertainer under their own name. Ned continued pursuing their passion for performing and joined A Prairie Home Companion as a Bass Soloist in 2017.

From 2014 to the present, Hanlon has played an integral role in the Metropolitan Opera. Ned initially joined as a Regular Chorus member, performing in numerous chorus productions and taking on solos. Ned also served as the Chorus Committee Chair, advocating for the chorus within the company and resolving concerns. Additionally, Hanlon negotiated with the Metropolitan Opera to mitigate the effects of their closure due to COVID-19 and raised over $500K for artists in need through Met Chorus Artists, Inc.

Hanlon's dedication to the arts extended to their involvement with the American Guild of Musical Artists. Ned served as the Met Negotiating Committee Chair, leading collective bargaining negotiations and ensuring safety protections in the company's history. In 2022, they were appointed as the President of the American Guild of Musical Artists.

Outside of the music industry, Hanlon briefly worked as an Assistant Cruise Director for Azamara in 2019 and as a Guest Entertainer in 2018.

Throughout their career, Ned Hanlon has demonstrated a strong commitment to the arts and the well-being of artists, making significant contributions as both a performer and advocate.

Ned Hanlon's education history includes a variety of degrees and certifications. Ned obtained an Associate's degree in Business Management with a focus on Labor Studies from Eastern Gateway Community College from 2020 to 2021. Prior to that, they pursued their passion for music at the University of Michigan, where they completed a Specialist degree in Music with a focus on Voice and Opera from 2008 to 2010. Before their Specialist degree, they earned a Master of Music in Voice and Opera from the University of Michigan from 2006 to 2008. Their Bachelor's degree in Vocal Performance was obtained from McGill University from 2002 to 2006. Furthermore, they earned their High School Diploma from Regis High School from 1998 to 2002.

Apart from their academic achievements, Ned Hanlon also obtained several certifications. In July 2019, they completed Crisis Management and Human Behavior (CMHB), Crowd Management Training (CMAT), and Hotel Basic Safety Training STCW, all from Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. In June 2019, they obtained the Security Awareness for Cruise Ship Staff certification from Marlins. Additionally, they have a TEFL Certification from the International TEFL Academy, which they received in April 2014.
