John MacKinnon

John Mackinnon is a seasoned professional in outdoor education and avalanche science with extensive experience in guiding and instruction. Since 2015, John has served as part-time faculty for the Outdoor Education Program at Red Rocks Community College and for the Avalanche Science and Outdoor Recreation Leadership Programs at Colorado Mountain College. Additionally, John is an instructor trainer and curriculum developer for the American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education since 2014. As a partner with Buena Vista Mountain Adventures since 2016, John contributes as a guide and instructor, while also maintaining a long-standing role as a guide with Timberline Mountain Guides, INC since 2008. John's earlier experience includes positions as a forecaster for the Crested Butte Avalanche Center and a guide with Crested Butte Mountain Guides. John holds a Master’s Degree in Education from Colorado State University and a Bachelor of Arts in Geosciences and History from Williams College.
