Shira Loewenberg

Director, Asia Pacific Institute at AMERICAN JEWISH COMMITTEE

Shira Loewenberg is Director of AJC’s Asia Pacific Institute (API). Prior to joining AJC, Loewenberg worked in New York and around the world for multilateral and international organizations including the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations and the United Nations Development Programme, with expertise in regions of conflict and post-conflict environments. She has appeared on panels and spoken at institutions including the World Bank, Columbia University, and Deutsche Welle, and has taught as an adjunct professor at The New School’s Graduate Program in International Affairs. She has authored numerous papers and op-eds published in The Hill, The Times of Israel, and the Sunday Guardian, among other publications.

In her AJC role, she has traveled widely and developed a network of diplomatic and political contacts. Under her leadership, the Asia Pacific Institute has expanded its scope and reach in the United States and throughout Asia.

Early in her career, Loewenberg spent two years working in Japan. She earned a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and an M.A. from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs.
