Daniel Gervais is currently the Associate Reporter for the Restatement of Copyright at The American Law Institute. Daniel holds the Milton R Underwood Chair in Law at Vanderbilt University, where Daniel is involved in various intellectual property programs. Previously, Daniel served as the Chair of the ABA Committee on International Copyright Laws and Treaties, and held various academic positions at Université d'Ottawa and University of Ottawa. With a background in intellectual property and legal services, Daniel has also worked at organizations such as BCF, World Intellectual Property Organization, and WTO. Daniel holds a Ph.D. in Private law (intellectual property) from Universite de Nantes and has several other degrees in law and legal studies.

The American Law Institute is the leading independent organization in the United States producing scholarly work to clarify, modernize, and otherwise improve the law. The Institute--made up of approximately 3,000 lawyers, judges, and law professors of the highest qualifications--drafts, discusses, revises, and publishes Restatements of the Law, model statutes, and principles of law that are enormously influential in the courts and legislatures, as well as in legal scholarship and education.
