George Kendall

Interim Director, Publishing & Media at AMERICAN LIBRARY ASSOCIATION

George Kendall has a diverse work experience in various publishing and content management roles. George currently serves as an Interim Director of ALA Publishing & Media at the American Library Association, a position they have held since March 2023. Prior to this, they worked as the Editor & Publisher of Booklist at the same organization since June 2019. Before joining ALA, they were the Director of Publications and Digital Content at the American Society of Anesthesiologists® from August 2014 to May 2019. From September 2008 to July 2014, they gained experience as the Managing Editor of Anesthesiology. In addition, they served as the Vice President of Operations at AlphaMed Press from February 2007 to August 2008. George Kendall's earlier work experience also includes a role as a Production, Marketing, and Licensing Manager at the National Academy of Sciences from July 2004 to January 2007.

George Kendall has a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in English Language and Literature from the University of Cape Town. George also holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in English Language and Literature from the University of Maryland Baltimore County. In addition, George has obtained a certification in CX Pro from Forrester in May 2019.

It is devoted to the support, maintenance, medical care, and welfare of librarians who, in the Trustees' opinion, are: Denied employment rights or discriminated against on the basis of gender, sexual orientation, race, color, creed, age, disability, or place of national origin; Denied employment rights because of defense of intellectual freedom; that is, threatened with loss of employment or discharged because of their stand for the cause of intellectual freedom, including promotion of freedom of the press, freedom of speech, the freedom of librarians to select items for their collections from all the world’s written and recorded information, and defense of privacy rights.
