Gabriel Escontrías

Gabriel Escontrías, Jr., Ed.D. has a diverse and extensive work experience. Gabriel currently holds the position of Managing Director of the Division of Diversity & Health Equity at the American Psychiatric Association, starting in January 2022. Prior to this role, they served as the Director of Health Equity at the same organization from August 2020 to December 2021.

In 2019, Gabriel founded and became the Managing Member of ConTrías Policy Associates, LLC, where they remain actively involved. Gabriel also has a background in academia, having worked at Arizona State University and the University of Arizona. At Arizona State University, Gabriel held various positions such as Managing Director of the Learning Sciences Institute and Director of Academic Personnel in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Gabriel Escontrías, Jr., Ed.D. obtained a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) degree in Higher and Postsecondary Education from Arizona State University, completing their studies from 2008 to 2012. Prior to that, they completed a Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree in Higher and Postsecondary Education at the same university, from 2004 to 2006. Gabriel also holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Sociology from Arizona State University, obtained from 1999 to 2003. In addition to their formal education, they have received certifications in various areas, including Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the Workplace from USF Corporate Training and Professional Education, Realtor from eXp Realty and Realty Executives Phoenix, and Group Cycle Instructor from Valley of the Sun YMCA.
