April McEwen, ENV SP, serves as the Northwest Dam Removal Program Director at American Rivers since July 2017, focusing on river restoration in the Pacific Northwest through partnerships and project management, including the Middle Fork Nooksack River Fish Passage Project. Prior experience includes roles as an Environmental Scientist and Project Lead at the California Department of Water Resources, where April managed various environmental projects, as well as a Hydrologic Technician Crew Leader for the U.S. Forest Service, overseeing fish passage barrier surveys. Earlier positions include research at the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, river operations management, and training in electrical systems installation. April holds a Master’s Degree in Natural Resource Management from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, further certification in River Restoration from Portland State University, and a Bachelor's Degree from Coastal Carolina University.
