After graduating from high school, they went on to pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography and Marine Affairs at the University of Rhode Island, from 1978 to 1982. In 1980 to 1981, Paula enrolled in the University of Aberdeen and studied Geography; however, it is unknown if they completed a degree program at this institution. Later in their educational journey, they pursued a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree at The George Washington University School of Business from 2000 to 2002.
