Marco Riojas

Marco Riojas is a Senior Scientist in Bacteriology/Genomics at Biodefense & Emerging Infections (BEI) / ATCC, where responsibilities include managing a laboratory team and serving as a subject matter expert on Select Agent bacteria and bacterial genomics. With extensive experience in bacterial characterization, Marco has contributed significantly to the corporate R&D initiatives, notably the ATCC Genome Portal. Previous roles at ATCC included Lead Biologist and Senior Biologist, focusing on the detection and characterization of Select Agent pathogens. Prior to ATCC, Marco worked at Johns Hopkins University as a Senior Laboratory Technician researching cancer-specific DNA methylation and conducted diabetes-related research as a Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Marco holds a Ph.D. in Biodefense from George Mason University and additional degrees in Biology from The University of Texas at San Antonio and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
