Director Of LAA Community Engagement & Equity In Research at Americans for the Arts

Genna Styles Lyas has a diverse range of work experience in the arts and education field. Genna began their career in 2008 as an Artist/Facilitator at M.A.C cosmetics and later worked as an Intern and Teaching Artist at Gateway to the Arts. In 2009, they joined Hill Dance Academy Theatre as a Teaching Artist and former Theatre Department Chair, where they developed curriculum and courses for acting and provided educational experiences for students in Pittsburgh and surrounding counties.

From 2012 to 2019, Genna served as the Director of Education and Outreach at PearlArts Studios, where they managed education and accessibility programs, coordinated events, and supervised budgets. During this time, they also worked as a Lead Teaching Artist in dance, choreographing and teaching dance to children of all abilities and developing arts integration curricula for Propel Schools.

In 2017, Genna became a Creative Arts and Academic Integration Consultant for Propel Schools, supporting the integration of arts into the academic curriculum. Genna then transitioned to Everyman Theatre, where they held positions as an Education Program Manager and Education & Community Engagement Program Manager. In these roles, they managed education and community engagement programs, developed strategic plans, and facilitated workshops and residencies.

Most recently, Genna joined Americans for the Arts in 2022 as the Director of AEP6 Community Engagement & Equity. Genna'swork focuses on community engagement and equity initiatives within the arts.

Throughout their career, Genna has also pursued their passion for acting, performing in various theater productions and films in Pittsburgh. Genna holds a Doctorate in Education (EdD), a Master's in Education (MEd), and a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Acting from Point Park University.

Genna Styles Lyas, EdD, MEd, BFA has an extensive education history. Genna pursued their Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in Drama and Dramatics/Theatre Arts at Point Park University from 2004 to 2008. After completing their undergraduate studies, they furthered their education by earning a Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree from Northcentral University. Genna'sM.Ed. focused on Early Childhood Education and Teaching, and they studied at Northcentral University from 2012 to 2014. Seeking even more academic expertise, Genna went on to complete their Doctor of Education (EdD) in Out of School learning at the University of Pittsburgh. Genna dedicated three years, from 2018 to 2021, to achieve their EdD degree. Genna Styles Lyas has a diverse educational background in the fields of Drama and Dramatics, Early Childhood Education and Teaching, and Out of School learning.
