Matthew Hammond

Matthew Hammond is a highly experienced professional in the field of Materials Science, currently serving as the Director of Process Development at Amgen since July 2011. In this role, Matthew leads cross-disciplinary teams focused on the technical expertise of raw materials for clinical and commercial therapies, overseeing their selection, specification, and control. Prior positions at Amgen include PD Senior Principal Scientist, Principal Scientist, Senior Scientist, and Scientist, where responsibilities ranged from technical evaluations of materials to driving innovations in biomanufacturing processes. Earlier career experiences include contributions at NIST as an NRC Associate, guest research at the Adolphe Merkle Institute, and postdoctoral research at the Université de Fribourg. Matthew holds a Ph.D. in Materials Science from UC Santa Barbara and a B.S. in Chemistry from Harvey Mudd College.
