Cheikh Thiam

Cheikh Thiam currently serves as a Professor of English and Black Studies at Amherst College since July 2022. Prior to this role, Thiam held the position of Academic Dean and Dean for Africa South of the Sahara at the School for International Training from August 2018 to June 2022. Thiam was also an Associate Professor at The Ohio State University from 2009 until August 2018 and co-founded The Dakar Institute of African Studies in December 2013, where Thiam continued until July 2018. Academically, Thiam earned a Ph.D. from Binghamton University, a Maîtrise in Lettres modernes from Université de Provence- centre d'Aix, and a B.A. from Cheikh Anta Diop University.
