Mehret Mandefro

Mehret Mandefro has a diverse work experience spanning various industries. Mehret is currently serving as the Chief Operating Officer at TBTM Studios (powered by AMP Global Technologies), where they are involved in building a blockchain-based Media Fintech platform. In this role, they focus on turning culture into currency by rewarding fans and compensating creators.

Prior to their current position, Mehret Mandefro co-founded the Realness Institute in 2019, a non-profit organization that provides support and training for African filmmakers. Mehret held the role of Director of Development and Partnerships and played a key role in launching 30 film projects across 16 African countries through the Realness Residency program.

From 2017 to 2020, Mandefro worked as a Senior Producer and Writer at A51 Films, Ethiopia's leading international film and television production company. During their tenure, they collaborated with the company's award-winning producer/director team to create premium content, international co-productions, and production services.

Before joining A51 Films, Mehret Mandefro co-founded Truth Aid Media in 2008. As a Writer, Producer, Director, and Co-Founder, they worked on projects across various mediums, including fiction, documentary, episodic, and branded content. Their work has been recognized and awarded at festivals like Sundance and Berlin, and their TV shows have achieved high ratings worldwide.

Mandefro's involvement in the Ethiopian Diaspora Trust Fund as the Vice Chairman of the Board from 2019 to 2022 and their role as a member of the Advisory Council at the Jobs Creation Commission showcase their commitment to contributing to the growth and development of Ethiopia's creative industries.

Additionally, they have experience as an Executive Producer and Director of Social Impact at Kana Television from 2017 to 2020, as well as a previous role as Chief Medical Officer at Amida Tech from 2014 to 2016. Earlier in their career, they worked in the Department of Health Policy at George Washington School of Public Health and Health Services and served as a Medical Consultant at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Mehret Mandefro holds a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD degree in Anthropology from Temple University Graduate School. Previously, they attended Harvard University, where they obtained an AB degree in Anthropology. Mehret also pursued their medical studies at Harvard Medical School, specializing in Social determinants of health. Additionally, they earned an MSc degree in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, U. of London.
