Michael Charlton

Scientific Advisor at AMRA Medical

Dr. Michael Charlton is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians. He serves as Chief of Hepatology, Director of the Center for Liver Diseases and Medical Director of the Transplant Institute at the University of Chicago. He is Past President of the International Liver Transplant Society. Dr. Charlton previously served as Director of Hepatology and Medical Director of Liver Transplantation at the Mayo Clinic. He has held editorial roles for leading journals, including, associate editor for Hepatology, Transplantation, American Journal of Transplantation, and Liver Transplantation, and was a founding Associate Editor for Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology. He has served as principal investigator on grants from and been a study section member for the National Institutes of Health. He is a lead investigator for national and international clinical trials in nonalcoholic steatohepatitis and viral hepatitis. He serves as an investigator, Chair and Member for Data Safety Monitoring Boards for major pharmaceutical trials and has analyzed drug safety profiles for the Food and Drug Administration. He serves as a panel member and writer of AASLD Guidelines for the management of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis and has also served as a panel member and writer of AASLD Guidelines for the management of HCV. He has also served as a panel member and writer of American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (Nutrition in Liver Disease) and for the International Liver Transplantation Society (Immunosuppression).
