Andrew Gong has a strong background in aerospace engineering and research. Andrew started their career in 2011 as a Summer Vacation Scholarship Recipient at the Defence Science and Technology Organisation. From 2011 to 2013, Andrew served as the Vice Chair of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) University of Sydney Student Branch. In 2012, they also took on the role of NSW Treasurer for the Australian Youth Aerospace Association.

In 2014, Andrew joined the University of Sydney to pursue a PhD in Aerospace Engineering, specializing in fuel cell-based propulsion systems for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). During this time, they conducted theoretical modeling, hardware testing, and prototyping, leading to notable achievements such as the world's first flight demonstration of a fuel cell/battery/supercapacitor triple hybrid system in an aircraft. Andrew's research was supported by Northrop Grumman Australia and The University of Sydney's School of Aeronautical, Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering through the Aerospace Engineering Industry-Link Research Program.

Additionally, Andrew held various positions within professional organizations. Andrew served as the Vice Chair (Operations) of the Sydney Section of AIAA from 2015 to 2017 and as a Council Member of the AIAA Sydney Section in 2015. Andrew was also the Co Chair - Propulsion for the AIAC16 Young Engineers and Students Technical Committee in 2014 and the Vice Chair of the AIAA University of Sydney Student Branch from 2011 to 2013.

Andrew Gong completed their education at the University of Sydney. From 2010 to 2013, they obtained a Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Aeronautical and Space engineering, and they were awarded the University Medal for their outstanding achievement. After that, they pursued further studies and earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Aerospace, Aeronautical, and Astronautical Engineering from 2014 to 2018.
