Drew Klein

Scientist, Enzymology at Amyris

Drew Klein has a diverse work experience, beginning with their role as Vice President of AIESEC Yale in 2006 and Business Development for AIESEC United States in 2005. In 2008, Klein was an Undergraduate Researcher for the Center for Green Chemistry and Green Engineering at Yale, completing a senior thesis on Value-Added Co-products of Biodiesel: Lignins from Candlenut Shells. That same year, Klein also established a research & development program for the African Power Initiative, leading a team of four Ugandan and five international researchers on Clean Development Mechanism (Carbon Credit) projects and Life Cycle Assessment of bio-diesel production. From 2010 to 2016, Klein was a PhD Student Researcher for Elizabeth Sattely's research group at Stanford University, where they discovered pathways of antibiotic biosynthesis in dietary plants using enzymology and functional genomics and engineered natural product production in heterologous hosts using in vitro reconstitution and synthetic biology. Most recently, Klein has been a Scientist in Enzymology for Amyris since 2018.

Drew Klein completed their B.S. in Chemistry and Environmental Engineering from Yale University in 2009. Drew then went on to pursue a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Stanford University, which they completed in 2016.
