Onur Erbilgin

Data Scientist III at Amyris

Onur Erbilgin has worked in various roles since 2008. From 2008 to 2010, they were a Teaching Assistant at UC San Diego. From 2010 to 2015, they were a Graduate Student at UC Berkeley, where they were an Instructor for Microbiology Lab (PMB 122L) and an Instructor for Introductory Biology (Bio1A). Onur also worked as a Bootcamp Instructor during this time. From 2015 to 2018, they were a Postdoc at Berkeley Lab, where they developed an algorithm to computationally infer abstract reaction patterns from biochemical reaction databases and an end-to-end framework that integrates mass spectrometry signals with genes via chemical and reaction networks. Since 2018, they have been a Data Scientist at Amyris, where they are creating tools to analyze and learn from phenotype data and to use those assertions to redesign strains in an automated fashion.

Onur Erbilgin obtained a Bachelor's degree from UC San Diego in 2010, majoring in B.S. Biochemistry and Cell Biology and minoring in Psychology. Onur then went on to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Microbiology from the University of California, Berkeley, which they completed in 2015.
