Joseph Chihota

Vp: Integrated Mine Closure Planning at AngloGold Ashanti

Joseph Chihota has extensive work experience in the mining and environmental sectors. Joseph started their career at the Institute of Mining Research as an Environmental Engineer from 1996 to 1997. Joseph then joined Arup, where they held various roles, including Snr Environmental Engineer in Zimbabwe and Associate in South Africa. From 2004 to 2010, Joseph worked as the Regional Environmental Manager for AngloGold Ashanti in the Africa region. Joseph later became the Vice President of Environment for AngloGold Ashanti's Continental Africa division from 2010 to 2021. Currently, they hold the position of VP: Integrated Mine Closure Planning at AngloGold Ashanti. Joseph has also served as a member of the Board of Directors for Yatela Mine, Sadiola Mine, and Morila Mine.

Joseph Chihota has a strong educational background with multiple degrees and certifications. Joseph obtained a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Geology from the University of Zimbabwe in 1990. Joseph then pursued a Postgraduate Diploma in Mining Technology from Cambrian College in 1992-1993. Following that, they completed a Master of Science in Environmental Engineering at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in 1994-1995. Joseph later earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Zimbabwe in 1999-2001. In 2006-2007, they attended the University of Cape Town and received a Postgraduate Diploma in Management. Additionally, in 2018, Joseph obtained a certification from the Institute of Directors Southern Africa (IoDSA).
